In Home Services/Home and Community Based Services are provided to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities meet daily living needs and to ensure adequate support for optimal functioning at home or in the community. This program is designed to give the family or caretaker a respite or break from providing care. Services are provided by persons who have completed Martha Whitlock’s background checks and In-Home Services department training.
The In Home Services/Home and Community Based Services scope of services are:
- Home and Community Supports: Some of the services provided by a contract worker are assistance with daily living such as bathing, personal grooming, personal hygiene, shopping, meal preparation, community participation and assistance with accessing community resources, keeping appointments and participating in recreation.
- In-Home Nursing Respite: These services are provided by a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN). The need for nursing care is dependent upon whether or not the individual requires nursing care (as defined in the Mississippi Nurse Practice Act) in the absence of the caretaker. Medications are administered according to the Mississippi Nurse Practice Act.
